The Brain

I've always, always, been fascinated by the brain. I have no neuro-degree of any sort but any time there is an article about synapses or how the brain works, I'm all over it. Which is why I thought this article was just totally fascinating!

Which way do you see the women rotating? Clockwise or counter-clockwise?

The article says that people who see the women rotating clockwise are right-brain people and people who see her rotating in the counter-clockwise direction are left-brain people. Now most of you all are knitters/sewers so you probably see it in the clockwise direction. Sadly, for me it most definitely was counter-clockwise when I first looked at it. If you stare at it long enough you can get it to switch directions.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS

uses feeling
“big picture” oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can “get it” (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

SO Cool!

I keep staring at it and it keeps going clockwise... I can't get it to go the other way!

Lynn,
I find it happens when I look off past the side of my computer and in the corner of eye I notice it change.
But two out of three times I looked straight at it, it has been counterclockwise first.

For a few seconds it rotated in a clockwise direction, then quickly changed to counterclockwise. I easily see it rotating both ways but I prefer clockwise.

I see it counter-clockwise. No surprise to me...

I can't even imagine how it COULD be going counter-clockwise! I'm in a fight with my coworker now, because we each refuse to imagine how it could be going opposite to our perception. Ha! Thanks though, this is neat!

counterclockwise for me. ican get it to go clockwise, but then if i look at it for a few seconds, it goes back to clockwise. makes sense with the descriptions, plus i am left handed so that might also have an impact?

I can get it to go both ways! How cool is that. if you stare at the bottom foot long enough it will switch on you!

Does that mean I'm both?

That's awesome! I watched her for a while, then I started to read more of what you had to say, and I noticed she switched. I got really confused! I kept trying to figure out what was happening, why she kept switching when I tried to keep reading. Finally, I just scrolled down past her and finished reading, and found out why she kept switching on me. So neat!

I think it actually switches rotation itself every so often. If you watch the angle of the pivot foot you can tell exactly when it changes.

It's confusing, at first it switched rotation twice and now it's definitely counter clockwise. I tried to get it rotate the other way but it just won't. That's fascinating!

I cannot see how it could possibly be going clockwise. To me it is clearly only going counterclockwise. I watched for a long time and saw no change

my mom and i could see it change both ways. but we both thought it was initially going clockwise.
