Part of my weekend

A baby shower.....

babyblanket

....complete with baby blanket. I followed the directions from Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts and this beauty was easy as pie. One side (beige/white swirl) is a cotton fabric I found at Walmart on the $1 table when I was in Texas a year or so ago, which I subsequently also saw at Joanns and Michael Levines selling for much more. The bird print is a beloved fabric of mine that I found at a thrift store. The fabric was still on the bolt and was begging to be taken home. In the book this is heralded as a 2-hour project, which it really is. One hour to wash and dry the fabric and one hour to assemble. I don't have a circular stitch on my machine so I used the zig zag option and I think it turned out wonderfully.

BTW, we played many games as is required at a baby shower and one of them was to "chug" juice from a baby bottle. I never ever realized how difficult it is to drink out of baby bottles, my cheeks hurt just thinking about it.

Hope you all had a good weekend too and Happy Monday!

Beautiful! I've played baby shower games before but have never come across that one. I think I'd suck at it! ;-P

Lol, picturing grown girls trying to drink from a baby bottle!

That baby blanket is beautiful... I love your fabric choice!

What a lovely blanket! I'm sure they will appreciate it for a long time. One question: did you use anything in between the two fabrics to give it more weight? The blanket looks thicker than just two layers.

jujubee -- I put one layer of cotton batting in between the two layers. You can buy it on the bolt at Joanns and some of it comes prepackaged too!

I love the bird fabric. And it's so great when a two hour project actually takes only two hours!

Thanks for the info re: the batting. I have some friends expecting babies and think I'll try my hand at making baby blankets. Thanks for the tips!
